About Megan Bishop

Megan’s career began as an investigator with the D.C. Public Defender Service. She later attended the University of Texas School of Law where she was a member of the Criminal Defense and Innocence Clinics, an editor on the American Journal of Criminal Law, and a Research Assistant for Texas Law Review publications.

Megan became a trial attorney with the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender in 2016. There, she handled cases of all levels, argued numerous pretrial motions, and secured jury acquittals. Ultimately, she was appointed “DUI Liaison,” a leadership role training and mentoring colleagues in advanced DUI defense techniques and trial advocacy skills.

Through her transition into private practice, Megan continued to focus on DUI law while expanding her expertise into felony appeals, postconviction work, and federal defense practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. She has served as an associate attorney with the criminal defense firms of Stuart & Ward LLP and 2nd-Chair, and has been a longstanding contractor for both the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel and the Criminal Justice Act Panel. Throughout her career, Megan has represented clients in over fourteen counties, handling a diverse range of case types and gaining valuable insights into jurisdiction-specific practices. Her unique background in design and technology has proven invaluable in creating persuasive mitigation videos and sentencing presentations.

A repeat speaker at CCDB's Annual DUI Conference and a member of the DUI Defense Lawyers' Association, Megan has conducted trainings for both the private Defense Bar and the Public Defender’s Office. Her presentations cover topics from gas chromatography and standardized field sobriety tests to advanced motions practice. Her training materials and defense strategies have become valuable resources for attorneys across Colorado

Megan brings empathic communication skills and a passion for teaching to every platform she occupies. She serves as faculty for CU Law’s Trial Advocacy Clinic, coaches CU Boulder's Collegiate Mock Trial Team, and presides as a tournament judge for CBA's High School Mock Trial program. Her recent contributions to the legal community include her membership in CBA’s “COBALT” Executive Committee, testifying before the legislature in support of confidential evidence viewings, published articles in Best Lawyers “Insights,” and providing legal commentary on Denver9’s Next with Kyle Clark.

Megan has been named to the SuperLawyers Rising Star list and the Best Lawyers “Ones to Watch” list for four consecutive years in both DUI defense and criminal defense. She continues to center her practice on complex DUI litigation and other innovative trial strategies through her firm, Megan Bishop Law LLC.

Putting Principles Into Practice:

Most lawyers become lawyers because, somewhere along the way, we found ourselves incapable of walking away from injustice. 10 years into my work as a defense attorney, I continue to devote myself to my clients' causes because of my core beliefs: the protection of civil liberties, the fair and equal protection of the law, and the inherent worth of every person to be heard with dignity and respect.
